We don’t just create the best vans for van life; we’re living the van life.

It all started after I graduated high school. I completed a 3-year automotive apprenticeship, and after working for four years as an auto mechanic, I decided to move to Australia and try my hand at Aussie muscle cars. Sticking to one location and paying rent didn’t fit my current lifestyle, so I bought my first van – a 1980s Volkswagen Camper Pop Top. I became immediately hooked on this new van life where I would stay in Australia, traveling and working out of my van.

Upon returning home to the UK, I wanted a new challenge and decided to get my Mechanical Engineering qualifications. While attending school, I purchased and converted a van for weekend adventures. After school, I caught the travel bug again. I took a trip to South America and New Zealand, where I stayed for two years. Then, of course, now being a van lifer, I purchased another van, converted it, and toured New Zealand for six months.

After this trip, I returned to the UK and met my wife-to-be. Together, we built a van to travel around Europe in. The build was such a success that I got my first commissioned build! After that, I continued to work as a mechanical engineer for some time, but now the goal of someday starting my own van-building business was evident. Eventually, my wife and I moved to Canada and were introduced to school bus builds; our next project is in sight. During the COVID-19 lockdown, we built our very own camper-converted 32-foot school bus. After the lockdown lifted, we packed up our two dogs and took off across Canada in our new home on wheels.  We discovered Vancouver Island and decided to make it our new home after touring around it for six months.

After making new friends and settling in, I was recruited to transform a fellow van lifer friend’s HiAce into the camper of their dreams. I was introduced to Stuart during this project, and Van Isle Van Conversions was born.
